GANDERBAL: Acting on a complaint lodged by ‘Animal Aid Kashmir’, Ganderbal Police have arrested two individuals for mercilessly killing a stray dog in Safapora.

The complaint was filed after a video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing sharp public outrage. Taking swift action, Police Station Safapora registered FIR No. 13/2025 under relevant provisions of law, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and apprehended the accused.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), said that cruelty towards animals is a punishable offence and will not be tolerated. He urged people to treat animals with kindness and to report incidents of cruelty immediately.

Animal Aid Kashmir, which formally approached the police with the complaint, said, as per Alfaaz – The Words, the disturbing act had shocked the community and underscored the urgent need for accountability in cases of animal abuse.

The Ganderbal Police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding law, ensuring justice, and promoting humane values in the district.
