SHOPIAN: The much-anticipated District Shopian Tennis Ball Cricket Championship 2025–2026 officially commenced today with a vibrant inauguration ceremony at the Sports Stadium Shopian. The event marks a significant step in promoting grassroots sports across the region.
The championship was formally inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Shafiq, Principal, GDC Shopian. He was joined by Mr. Farooq Salroo, General Secretary, J&K Tennis Ball Cricket Association, underscoring the importance of the event.
The ceremony saw active participation from students representing various schools and players from different clubs across the district. Their presence added palpable energy and a competitive spirit to the opening day.
The opening day of the championship featured an impressive display of sportsmanship, teamwork, and raw talent. The high level of enthusiasm among the young players highlighted the rapidly growing interest in tennis ball cricket in the Shopian district.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Shafiq lauded the organizers for their commendable efforts in promoting sports and fostering talent at the grassroots level.
“I appreciate the efforts of the organizers for promoting sports at the grassroots level,” stated the Chief Guest. He further encouraged the young participants to compete with dedication, discipline, and passion throughout the tournament.
The championship is set to continue over the next few days, with multiple teams scheduled to compete fiercely for the coveted district title.
