DC Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb, Honored for Implementing JAP on Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse Among Children and Illicit Trafficking
Shopian: Shopian district has been lauded at the national level for its exceptional efforts in preventing drug abuse among children. District Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb received an award for the district’s successful implementation of the Joint Action Plan (JAP) on “Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking.”
This recognition was granted by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a premier child rights organization in India.
The award ceremony, held in New Delhi, was presided over by Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai. A top-level officer from the District Administration accepted the award and certificate on behalf of DC Shopian. The certificate of appreciation highlighted the district’s commendable work over the past two years in combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking among children.
In collaboration with the police, the District Administration launched a comprehensive and results-oriented campaign. Key initiatives included controlling the over-the-counter sale of scheduled drugs, installing CCTV cameras across pharmacies and medical stores, strictly enforcing COPTA provisions around educational institutions, and ensuring robust supervision of medical stores by drug and child welfare officers. Additionally, the district involved Prahari Clubs in schools to conduct training and awareness programs.
One of the notable achievements under the action plan is that the district has not reported any cases under Sections 77 and 78 of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
Expressing his happiness over the recognition, Deputy Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb thanked all stakeholders and the public for their support. He emphasized the commitment to continue collaborating against the menace until it is completely eradicated from society.
