Shopian: District Development Council (DDC) Vice Chairman, Shopian, Irfan Manhas toured several areas of Tehsil Keller today to review the progress of ongoing developmental works. He was accompanied by officials from various departments to ensure effective implementation of schemes across the region.
During his visit, Manhas highlighted the strides being made under various government schemes. “Key projects like the upgradation of power and irrigation infrastructure, health and education facilities, PMAY cases, installation of solar lights, and other initiatives are in full swing. These projects are aimed at the holistic development of Tehsil Keller and the district of Shopian,” he stated.
Manhas emphasized that several works have been tendered out and are progressing steadily, reflecting the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents.
However, while interacting with the media, Manhas expressed his discontent over the exclusion of the District Development Council during the recent visit of Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo to Shopian. “It undermines the democratic process if such key institutions are sidelined. The DDC, being the cornerstone of local governance and development, plays a crucial role in planning and implementing works. Ignoring the elected representatives who allocate funds and create plans is detrimental to the idea of governance and democracy,” he said.
Manhas stressed that collaborative efforts among all government institutions are essential for effective governance. “The DDC’s involvement is pivotal for transparent and inclusive development, and sidelining it is unacceptable,” he added.
The Vice Chairman assured the public that he will continue to advocate for the involvement of elected representatives in all developmental processes, ensuring accountability and democratic integrity at the grassroots level.
