JAMMU: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday termed the ongoing protests by daily wagers as politically motivated, stating that the issue is being politicised by a few individuals rather than representing a genuine workers’ concern.
Talking to reporters, the Deputy Chief Minister said that some selected people have projected themselves as leaders of the daily wagers and are using the issue for political purposes. He said the matter is not an issue in the manner it is being portrayed.
“Our Chief Minister has already constituted a committee, and we know how to deal with this issue. Daily wagers will be regularised,” Choudhary said, asserting that the government is committed to resolving the matter through a structured and lawful process.
Without naming any political party, the Deputy Chief Minister alleged that certain elements are doing politics at the behest of a party and are deliberately trying to create unrest. He said the protests are being driven by political motives rather than workers’ welfare.
Choudhary hinted that in Jammu, some daily wagers are allegedly hand in glove with the Bharatiya Janata Party and are attempting to politicise the issue for political gain.
He said the government remains focused on governance and welfare measures and will not be distracted by what he described as politically orchestrated protests. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the committee constituted by the Chief Minister will examine all aspects related to regularisation and take appropriate decisions. [KNT]
