Srinagar: The crescent of Islamic month Rajab ul Murrajab 1446 A.H, has been sighted tonight, in the sub-continent alongside Himalayan region Jammu and Kashmir.
With the sighting of the crescent, the Islamic world will be welcoming the holy Ramadan month after two months’ period.
Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, said, about the onset of the month of Rajab ul Murrajab from tomorrow in Jammu and Kashmir.
The month (of Rajab ul Murrajab), seventh in the lunar calendar, is sacred and significant in Islam for many reasons, including; that Allah chose Rajab as one of four sacred months in which fighting is prohibited; the month is a safe month for Muslims to perform Umrah, the smaller pilgrimage to Mecca; Divine mercy, blessings, and rewards are at their peak during Rajab; Committing a sin in Rajab is severely punished; Rewards for acts of obedience performed in Rajab are greater than other months; Muslims believe that Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth Rashidun caliph, was born during Rajab; Rajab is the month when Muhammad’s journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and then through the seven Heavens took place.
