Shopian: In a significant step towards empowering women and promoting education, the Department of Social Welfare, Shopian, in collaboration with NRLM Shopian, inaugurated a Computer Lab at the NRLM Office in Batapora, Shopian. The initiative, undertaken under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, aims to benefit Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and girl students of the district.
The Computer Lab was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Set up for local entrepreneurs associated with Self-Help Groups under the Rural Livelihood Mission, the facility is a significant milestone in providing training and upskilling opportunities. It is expected to enhance productivity and foster economic growth among women entrepreneurs.
Speaking with media, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Saleem Dar lauded the efforts of the coordinating departments in empowering women. He expressed hope that the dedicated Computer Lab would contribute to the economic vibrancy of businesses managed by SHGs and support their enterprises effectively.
“This initiative aligns with our administration’s goal of promoting economic upliftment through the empowerment of women and supporting local entrepreneurship,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
The event witnessed the presence of key officials, including DSWO Shopian, DPM RLM, and other concerned officers, along with numerous members of Self-Help Groups.
The Computer Lab is seen as a critical step in equipping women with the necessary skills to strengthen their enterprises and achieve economic independence.
