BUDGAM: In a significant judgment, the Principal Sessions Judge of Budgam has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl, marking a major success for the Budgam Police in its fight against crimes targeting children.

The convict, identified as Zahid Ahmad Parra, a resident of Chrar-i-Sharief, was found guilty in connection with FIR No. 55/2023 registered under Sections 363 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court, after a detailed trial, held him responsible for the abduction and sexual assault of the victim.

Officials said the investigation was conducted meticulously by the Budgam Police, leading to a strong prosecution case that ensured the conviction. “This verdict reflects our firm resolve to safeguard children from any form of abuse and to ensure that perpetrators face the harshest punishment under the law,” a senior police officer said.

The Budgam Police commended the investigating team for their professionalism and dedication throughout the case proceedings.
