JAMMU: The Bharatiya Janata Party will corner the government over the long-pending issue of daily wagers during the upcoming Assembly session beginning from February 2, BJP legislator Vikram Randhawa said on Saturday.
Talking to reporters in Jammu, Randhawa said the party would raise several public interest issues in the House, with special focus on the plight of daily wagers who continue to await regularization. He said that nearly 95 percent of daily wagers were engaged during the National Conference rule and questioned the delay in their regularization now.
Randhawa asked what was stopping the present government from resolving the issue, stating that the matter had remained pending for years despite repeated assurances. He said the BJP would strongly press the government to come out with a clear and time-bound policy for regularising daily wagers.
Reiterating the demand for statehood for Jammu, the BJP legislator claimed that Kashmir derives its identity because of Jammu and asserted that it would not survive independently if Jammu were to part ways with it. He alleged that Jammu has been dominated by Kashmir for the last seven decades and said the time had come to end what he described as regional imbalance.
He further said the BJP would continue to highlight issues related to employment, regional equality, and governance during the Assembly session, adding that the party would act as a strong voice for the aspirations of the people of Jammu.
The Assembly session, scheduled to begin on February 2, is expected to witness heated debates on political, administrative, and socio-economic issues confronting the Union Territory. [KNT]
