BARAMULLA: Authorities in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 in Mirgund, Mirchimar village and adjoining areas of Tehsil Singhpora in Sub Division Pattan, citing concerns over possible law and order issues.
As per an order issued by the District Magistrate Baramulla, the decision follows a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla highlighting a long-standing dispute between two factions of the Shia community regarding the conduct of religious functions and control over Imam Bargah and Masjid Mirchimar in Mirgund.
The order further states that restrictions will remain effective from 8:00 PM on March 10 to 9:30 PM on March 11, 2026, coinciding with the 21st of Ramzan, as a precautionary step to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident.
Under the restrictions, gathering of four or more persons, processions, carrying of firearms or any weapon, and use of loudspeakers without prior permission of the District Magistrate have been prohibited in the specified areas. However, the order exempts armed forces personnel, police officials, magistrates and other authorised public servants on duty. (KNC)
