PATHANKOT: In a major security breakthrough, Pathankot Police apprehended a suspect during naka checking under heightened security arrangements and recovered a cache of illegal arms and ammunition from his possession, officials said on Saturday.
Quoting official sources, news agency Kashmir News Corner reported that the accused has been identified as Jaswant Singh, who was intercepted during routine checking. Upon search, police recovered three AK-47 rifles along with five magazines, two pistols one Turkey-made and one China-made along with two pistol magazines, and 98 live cartridges of various calibres.
The accused failed to produce any valid licence or authorization for possessing the recovered weapons, they said, adding that the arms and ammunition were seized as per legal procedure and the individual was taken into custody on the spot.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Arms Act and BNSS, while further investigation has been launched to ascertain the source, intended use, and possible linkages of the recovered arms. (KNC)
