POONCH: In a stern action against corruption within the police ranks, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a police sub-inspector after catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe during a trap operation in the Mendhar area of Poonch district.
Quoting officials, news agency KNC reported that ACB arrested a police sub inspector for demanding and accepting a bribe in a trap operation conducted in the Mendhar area of Poonch.
Officials said the accused police officer was caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification following a complaint received by the ACB. Acting on the complaint, the bureau laid a trap and successfully apprehended the officer at the spot in Mendhar.
The arrest was made after verification of the allegations, following which a formal case was registered under relevant provisions of law. The accused has been taken into custody for further investigation.
An official said the operation is part of the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s continued drive against corruption in public offices. He said investigations are underway to ascertain whether any other officials were involved and to determine the broader circumstances surrounding the case.
The ACB has reiterated its appeal to the public to report instances of corruption, assuring strict action against those found indulging in corrupt practices.
