SRINAGAR: Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, at least 90 Kashmiri students reached Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on Tuesday evening and are expected to board a flight to New Delhi on Wednesday.

National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), Nasir Khuehami, said that the  students had crossed the Iran-Armenia border safely.

He said nearly 20 students from other Indian states had also reached Yerevan.

“All the Indian students who crossed into Armenia have safely reached Yerevan. This includes around 90 from Kashmir Valley, along with others from various Indian states, totalling approximately 110 students from Urmia Medical University,” Khuehami said.

He added that the students were received and accommodated at designated hotels. “Their flight from Armenia to Delhi is scheduled for Wednesday, with all arrangements being facilitated in coordination with Indian authorities,” he said.

Meanwhile, JKSA has appealed to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar for the immediate evacuation of Kashmiri students still stranded in Iran, as the Iran-Israel conflict intensifies.

The association raised concerns over deteriorating security conditions, stating that hundreds of Indian students, mostly from Jammu and Kashmir, remain stranded amid airstrikes, missile attacks, and growing fear.

The Embassy of India in Tehran on Monday said it had made arrangements for evacuation and requested universities to permit Indian students to leave.

In a communique to various universities, the embassy stated, “We have made arrangements for their evacuation. They may be permitted to leave the university and are being facilitated by the Embassy of India, Tehran.”

At least 600 Indian students, mainly from Kashmir, were relocated to safer locations on Monday. (KNO)
