SHOPIAN: The two-day 6th District Shopian Badminton Championship 2025–26 concluded successfully with immense enthusiasm and participation at Government Degree College (GDC), Shopian.
The event was organized by the District Shopian Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Tariq Hussain, Vice Principal of GDC Shopian, who attended as the Chief Guest. Among the Guests of Honour were Mr. G.H. Rasool Khanday (Manager, Sports Council Shopian), Mr. Wakeel Ahmad (Teacher, AGS Aahgam), Miss Uzma (Teacher, Public Model School, Hellow), Sehran Nazir, Faisal Hamid, and Miss Shahzada from the Department of Physical Education, GDC Shopian.
More than 80–100 players from across the district participated in various age categories, displaying exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. The championship witnessed remarkable performances as young shuttlers competed fiercely for top honours. Parents expressed immense joy and pride while watching their children perform at the district-level event.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tariq Hussain commended the efforts of the organizers and lauded the participants for their spirited performances. He emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness among youth.
Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Hadayatullah Koka and Mr. Zahid Majeed, Organisers of the Championship, for their tireless efforts and dedication in ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
The championship concluded on a high note with participants, guests, and organizers expressing optimism for continued promotion of sports culture in Shopian district.
