SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a Deputy Commissioner (IRS–C&IT 2016 batch), two CGST Superintendents, an advocate, and the owner of a private company in connection with a high-value bribery and GST-evasion case in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the official press release, the CBI registered the case on Dec 30, 2025, following allegations that the accused were seeking ₹1.5 crore in undue advantage in exchange for facilitating GST-evasion relief for private firms.
Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap, catching two CGST Superintendents red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹70 lakh, allegedly on the directions of the arrested IRS officer posted in Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST), Jhansi, officials said.
Subsequent searches conducted by the agency led to the recovery of ₹90 lakh in cash, multiple property documents, Jewellery and bullion, Total cash seizure so far ₹1.60 crore, officials disclosed.
CBI stated that the investigation has busted an organised bribery racket operating within the CGST establishment in Jhansi, and further searches and probe processes are still underway. (KDC)
